One of the most influential cinematic directors ever, Akira Kurosawa made his breakthrough film in 1951, and had a good run of success in the 1950s. Creativity then deserted him until 1975, and he became terribly depressed about his lack of productivity in these years. At his death, he left a legacy of 30 excellent films.
